The Four Dhams
Yamunotri Dham, the source of the sacred Yamuna river, is the first stop of the Char Dham Yatra. Located at 3,293m in the Garhwal Himalayas, the temple of Goddess Yamuna sits beside the hot water springs of Surya Kund. Pilgrims trek 6 km from Janki Chatti to reach the shrine.

Gangotri Dham, the origin of the holy river Ganga, is situated at an altitude of 3,100m in Uttarkashi district. The Gangotri temple, built by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th century, is dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The actual source, Gaumukh, lies 18 km upstream.
